Repair is why I only recommend Chinese scooters to people that can repair them themselves. Or somebody that has a buddy that can do it for him and teach how to be a mechanic. or LEARN yourself like i've been doing. now i know i havent had to do any MAJOR repairs BUT i now know no matter what happens i have support on 3 forums, where people will go out of their way to help.

I didn't know squat about a scooter until I bought one 7 years ago. I have always been mechanically inclined and I had a few dirt bikes in the past but to me a scooter was a mystery. I joined a few forums and did what the guys told me to do and now 7 years later I'm making a living fixing all kinds of scooters. I love the forums! Except Dawg. I tolerate that one. LOL

it's not just scooters, harley dealers are feeling it too. market saturation in some areas have caused dealers to close. the economy and the fact that some dealers just plane suck are the reason they close. some had to go the boutique route with their buildings per the HD headquarters. million dollar buildings need to turn a lot of product to make it go.

million dollar buildings need to turn a lot of product to make it go. That same thing happened to our Chevy dealer years ago, they were in an old building 1930's or so and they built a new building and added all the GM products, they had been a Chevy Buick dealer since day one. After about 3 years, they went belly up and closed the doors. GM wanted them to build a new showroom to house all the models and I think the dealer saw dollar signs and got greedy. Oh well, they still make Chevy's and the dealer in the next town is still in buisiness housed in his 1920's building and is the 3rd generation, family owned dealership in Marceline, MO. The guys i am talking to say harleys are a bad deal, the engines don't last as long as a japanese water cooled.
And the parts are way cheaper and sometimes better.
I think a theme emerging here is reliability with scooters and big bikes.
my xingyue has given me so many problems i am trumatized.
will never trust one again.
And many of the dealers and many of the parts suppliers deal and act like no one i wanna be around.
What has gotten to me is the strange bed fellows i have had to process, real losers.
I have had some very good folks come my way, many hear on this forum, but all and all its been a real mixed bag.
I still love the biger scooters, I will move at a sym next.
Mean while, i think the number one thing is this industry needs to get the weirdos out.
I went up state from me a while back to a huge cycle seller, they are not rich, but highly respected, looking back i know why, the place was staffed by very mature and positive people, really wholesome folks.

Japanese bikes are throw away bikes. the parts might be cheeper but when there is any work to be done on older asian bikes the parts availability just isn't there. yesterday, while putting my 85 HD back together i found a part that needed to be replaced. i look in the parts book, find the part number, call the dealer in town to see if they had it. the part i'm looking for was first used on harleys in 1965. they didn't have one in stock (i wasn't expecting them to have one) but the parts scrub said they will have one for me by thursday, maybe sooner. there's a lot of harley haters out there that don't know what they're talking about.

Terra may be referring to me. I heard a couple months back they were dropping scooters. When I heard that I looked at the release for next years line up and only saw the bigger scooters listed, the 300cc Xciting.

Actually last guy who said this just sold a harley and got a water cooled suzuki cruser, no bending over. But I have heard harleys are great on old parts. These circus buildings did not lower price or lift a burden for dealers.
I saw a dealer who was selling huge water cooled folk extended cruser hondas for 13,000, but they had crap locks and looked very bare, but where expected to go 40,000
BUT WHAT DO I KNOW AS USUAL

but you have to live near a dealer/mechanic or they will not sell you one you can have repaired near you.
SYM will find you a mechanic nearby and certifie him, they have been doing this to whip kymcos butt and it is working.
when i called kymco, they laughed when i tried to get a deal with my own mechanic, THEN THANKED ME FOR CALLING-HANG UP
So i will go after a sym, but perfere the kymco.

what does "expected to go 40,000" mean? miles? i'm at about 90,000 on my hog. i expect it to go another 90k now that i took care of stuff that needed attention.
