Unless you have a problem you have no posted about, I don't think you need a starter motor. Or have you pulled it off and seen a problem.

Ok. If the wire is melting you have a problem.
You could use the starter off of the old motor and see if the problem goes away.

Wire melting means you are drawing too many amps for the wire
With bbk i run large wires to the state r
But a weak starter will cause this as well as a bad ground

This wire was not melting,
when i turned bike off, battery was drained and red wire to selenode was hot, its a dam big wire, I think 14 gauge
around this same time, i got the starter problem, about which the crunching sound has gotten so bad it will not turn over.
This is a 123 CVT real big, the kick start works great and have been using it to start bike most times first push-veroooom.
I am also wondering if the in line electrical device next to CDI that helps charge bike is sour.
it sounds like i have a weak battery, but i am wondering if starter motor is fried and sounds bad as it runs better after riding , and i don't have old motor to change out and test
WOW

If the starter motor is not turning the motor over at all it could even be that the starters hung up on the starter clutch. That would make it draw a lot of power justtrying to do its job.

i think i go from 14 to 10 with the starter wires on the 2 strokes and i also put in a battery with more cold cranking amps

I had to replace the starter clutch in my girlfriends JCL MP 250 A. It had the Linhai 257cc motor. What happened when the starter clutch stops working in this case is, You hit the starter button and the starter motor sounds like it is just freewheeling. The starter motor makes a whiring sound instead of turning the engine over. It is a bit of a job changing it also. First you have to take anything off including the exhaust to clear the left side of the engine. Then take the engine case off. The starter clutch is bolted to the back of the flywheel. You may need a puller to get it off. I did. Then you have to buy the right starter clutch for the motor. In the case of the 257cc Linhia scooter motor it has 49 teeth. You have to make sure the vendor dos'nt send you the 57 tooth Linhia ATV starter clutch. They are also the most expensive starter clutch of all the Chinese scooters at $80 from Absolutelyscooters. And that is a good price btw. I've seen them as high as $129

Terra asked me to help him with a list of parts that might be needed for his job on the scooter. The BMS Pathfinder is a clone of Teds People 150 and I and guessing that since the Chinese like to copy things so much and use the same motor platform across the scooters made there that it can use the same parts as the Kymco does.I went looking, last year I used these parts suppliers Parts dealers for Kymco; www.stadiumyamaha.com/pages/OemParts?aribrand=KYMwww.tntcycles-atv.com/pages/oemparts?aribrand=KYMwww.kymcoparts123.com/pages/OemParts?aribrand=KYMParts may be a real problem, everywhere I looked, including Kymco the parts have been out of stock or flags for out of date. BMS has a squirrelly web page. Ebay suppliers may be an option. The parts i suggest for him are these Listings on the Kymco web page are; You may be able to get by without the gasket and use a bead of silicone sealer on the case. You can get a complete starter clutch, I am sure that is because it is identical to the regular gy6, The reduction gear is still available at Kymco, it may also be a GY6 gear, I didn't compare Teds because it was not a problem. The oil seal is 19.8x30x5 on the Kymco and you really need a new one of those. The "O" ring on the starter may not be a real problem, I just like to replace things like that when they are out. So bottom line minimum; starter clutch (or if you really want to you can just change that gear on it, I think a normal mechanic would put a new unit in not just the gear) Reduction gear (just because it may be part of the problem and if you get it all apart then have to wait for a part, you wasted several days) Oil seal - absolute must get nice to have; right side case gasket (in a squeeze you can get away with silicone) new starter, since yo have been having problems with it turning over, wires getting hot. but can be replaced easily if you want to do the rest of the job and see what happens.
