Hey all, I'm not quite sure if this is the right place to post this... It was the best I could figure.. if not, maybe one of the mods can move it fer me. Anywhoo, took a 50cc Wildfire dropped it onto a 150cc engine. It runs down the road nice and straight, but I have a few minor problems. The one I'm most concerned about at the moment, is the headlight. I've been through 2 bulbs. I tried changing the voltage regulator.. I'm wondering if there's a resistor I can put on, and how I'd go about doing that.. or if I need to change the coil Stator? (when swapping the engine, I did hafta solder the 3 prong connector from my 50cc to the new 150cc to get it to plug into my harness) The only other problem I'm having is, that the kickstart won't budge.. I hope I don't hafta use it, but just in case, I'd like to know it's gonna work if I need it. Anyone got any ideas?

Welcome, First you didn't drop a 12 volt motor into a 6 volt system did you? I'm guessing probably not. The 50cc gy6 has a pretty weak charging system. If you are using the bulbs from a 50 I'd upgrade the wattage and see if that helps. Consult some of the wiring diagrams I have in the How to library and go from there. If all else fails there probably is a resistor you could ad to the circuit. Have you checked the charging system output? click this to get into the reference area directly. scooterrebels.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=ignreadonly

I'm sure we all would like to see what you did on the conversion it would be great for you to post some photos.

did you use a 150cc wire harness or no the 150s run more coils on the stator then the 50 so you may be getting too much ac juice to the lights becuase you may have the wron regulator/rectifier

Thanks fellas! both 12v systems.. using a 12v 35w bulb.. stock harness on the frame.. some of the people I found online who did this were able to plug everything right in, and others had the same problem with the headlight.. but they didn't tell how they fixed it. I had tried running the stock rectifier/regulator, and the bulbs almost burnt through the plastic. Lol. So I got one for a 150cc that plugs into my harness... Now the light flickers bright to brighter, and then burns out. Definitely too much juice. If worse comes to worst, I may just try running them off the battery instead of direct, if possible. I'll check the library out and stuff when I got some daylight tomorrow.. maybe break out the multimeter. I'll keep y'all posted.. and get some pics too. Thanks again

Was just looking through some stuff in the library that reminded me.. I've been wondering for a while, if an HID kit could cure my ills? Or be a more expensive mess?

I have never installed one. It might mulitply the effort needed to fix the problem if you did the conversion before fixing the problem.

Here's one pic.. it's only letting me put one in at a time.. Since I kept my 10in wheels, I had to swap the axle shaft in the new engine with the one from the old engine- which is roughly 2in shorter.. I think 2 1/4 if I remember right.. So I also had to offset my engine mount hanger by the same, so the wheel would be centered. Changing the axle shafts was pretty easy.. once the CVT is taken apart, the shafts just slide through a bearing. Be gentle pulling the CVT apart, so that you'll know how the gears all go back in. I had originally made my hanger straight across, but it got in the way of the carb.. so after it was welded in, we cut out the center. I'll post that later, and a pic of my stator connector, when it isn't quite 100 degrees outside. Attachments:

That's what I kinda figured.. ain't really got the $$$ to be replacing HID bulbs in the process. Lol I'm also gonna take a closer look at my stator connector.. because two of the wires matched up with the colors on my old connector, and one was different.. Maybe I should have matched them by position on the connector, rather than by colors..

Pic of my stator connector.. actually, all three wires had color matches.. Scooter won't run without this connector plugged in... I can't seem to find how to test the current in the how-to section... maybe I haven't quite got the hang of navigating this forum.. Just as well- I've hunted high and low for my multimeter, it's hiding from me now that I need it. Lol. I think I may hafta break down and order a wiring harness from wildfire for one of their 150's and a regulator to go with it.. They sell both 6-coil and 8-coil stators for their 150cc scoots. Ordered another regulator from wildfire.. may end up ordering a wiring harness and stator too.. not sure yet.. also ordered a double-edged sword.. zombies, gremlins, etc.. so now we wait.. Zzz..zZz..ZzZzzzz....
