OK everyone...This is my first post, so please allow me a little slack since I don't have much experience with scooters.
I "inherited" a Longbo 50cc scooter (LB50QT-6) with a drum style front brake. The previous owner admitted striking something hard with the scooter, and I think there-in lies the problem. There is nothing to keep the front drum from rotating on the axle when the front brake is applied! It looks like something broke off the left fork that MIGHT have held the drum in place, but I can't tell. I can't find parts lists or schematics for this scooter, so could someone provide a photo or diagram that would show how the front drum is held in place?? Much appreciated....

Welcome monkey.
That must be an early scooter. I think I have never heard of a drum brake on the front. I it runs wellyou might consider finding a scooter that is not running and swap out the motor.

The channel on the hub of the wheel is going to slip into a ridge on the fork

Thank you gentlemen. I appreciate the responses. I can see on the drum where it should slide onto a casting on the fork, but there isn't anything on the fork to slide onto!! Without trying to be a pest on my very first post, could you possibly find a detailed picture of the drum while it's mounted? I'm beginning to wonder if the previos owner bent the original forks and replaced them with something that doesn't belong on this scooter. I hate to surrender on this project. The rest of the scooter looks and works fine. Thanks again.

I looked and could only find a pic of the drum. I think you might be right, he may have put a newer fork on it. If you have the mounting for a brake caliper I think Terri is right, put a front disk brake on it.
If the casting is on the fork it should be easy to see and it would either be in the right place or on the outside of the fork because he assembled it off by 180 degrees.

Thanks again everybody. I am beginning to think the disc might be the way to go. But to keep my options open, I am going to try to get a picture of the set-up it has at this time to help explain the situation.

well a frint disc conversion could be costly
you will need a master cyl with lever and be able to mount it on your handle bars you will also need new forks and every thing between the forks axle wheel spacers bearings disc caliper and speedo sender

If you can find a donor scooter it might help in the expense rather than buying it all new.

I think you are probably right Rebel. It would be much easier to "transplant" the disc brake set-up and front end than trying to piece it together......I still have a burning desire to find out exactly what happened to this poor scooter. Some people should be kept away from wrenches of any kind!

yes you may need a whole donor scoot the ruck huys do that unless they buy one of the expensive kits
as you may even need to change the fork tree as some scoots run diffrent dia forks
after i get back from helping our oa ventrure crew sponsers today with there sporting clay shoot ill look at mine but i think they all have wire wheels so if thats the case i think there set up is diffrent

The guy that owns Mainely Scooters (see ad on the left side of the screen) parts them out sometimes and might be a good person to ask about used parts. Make sure you let him know we sent you to him, it might not hurt on the price.

Just because it comes off a scooter with the same size tires, fork length, ect. The triple tree steering stem might be a different size or length. Don't ask how I know this.
