not wishing to beat a dead horse, but..... I decided to attempt to change my rollers today. I have a 2011 Peace 805 50cc. It has about 2000 miles on it. I got a nifty variator holding tool that reall sucked, but I managed to get the nut to turn; however, its not coming off. is there a trick to it that im missing? I can spin it all day and nothing.

well if the crank isnt turning then the nut is striped and the only way to get it off is a nut buster
well you hope its just the nut and not the crank

If the crank is turning there is a cheap trick you can do. Pull the spark plug a feed as much quarter inch rope as you can into the hole, the piston will come up some but won't be able to turn a complete revolution. Make sure you leave a few inches out so you can pull the rope back out.
There is a screw in stop device available out there too, just basically a plastic rod that holds the piston down.
Take pics of the job, I don't have a 50cc and its variator is a bit different then the 150, if you don't mind I'd like some pics of the job.

Im gonna make another regular attempt this morning and get you some pics. if it is indeed stripped, Ill see about getting a nut buster and going at it with that. Ill give the rope thing a shot too. If its stripped, Il have to wait until i can get a new nut shipped in for the nut buster. Thanks for the advice.

Unfortunately it's not unusual to have the Chinese over torque that nut on the crankshaft. I had a 150cc with the same problem. Your going to have to cut the nut off the crank. After that you now have a crank with screwed up threads. What do you do? Idea one.
1. If the threads aren't totally gone you can try and run a die down it to half way repair the thread. Buy a new nut and see if it will hold the torque.
2. Same as above but use Loctite Red.
3. Split the cases and put in a new crank. Might as well put in a stroker one.
No easy fix. Sorry.

nut buster totally didnt work. I ended up finding a cordless 18v impact driver at harbor freight for 45 bucks. It worked but the threads were all whacked. I managed to bend my starter drive face and wreck my fan but luckily I can still get the nut on and off without the washer. I ordered some new parts from maine and should be here this weekend or monday. Ill take pics of the whole process.

Life would be no fun if everything was easy. Sorry it is being a pain. Not to change the subject, but have you folks ever read "Tales of the South Pacific"? Part of it talks about how easy life was for the people that had lived there for centuries. All before the 2nd WORLD WAR. Their life was so simple that they made a tradition that made it harder. They would raise a pig so that it's tusks would grow through it's jaw bone in a circle. This pig would be the families pride and joy. They would worry about it's welfare. Once the pig was well endowed, they would give it away. The recipient would wear the tusks as a bracelet, after they ate the pig of course. The nature of the beast. We don't like things to be easy. If they are we make things difficult with tradition.
