On that rear brake, that lever doesn't have to come all the way off. You remove the bolt that holds it tight and then pull it off half way. The outer half of the lever will slip off the end of the shaft and the inner half will move to the smooth part of the shaft where the bolt passes through. You can also work the shaft in and out with your hand from the other side with the tire off. It will pull completely out of the case once that bolt is removed from the rear actuating lever. A little high temp grease on the shaft isn't a bad idea. www.chinesemotoparts.com/images/products/parts/K070-062/150.jpg [/img]
Fox, I have to make a trip to LA on Tuesday, would you like to see if you can fix the running problem? I can drop it off then. I will call you to see if that is good with you...

So Ted called me and I'm gonna take a crack at it now. He's dropping it off tomorrow.

i just received Teds scooter and I must say that with a good amount of work it could really turn into a nice pile o' crap!

Hmm well one mans trash is another mans treasure. It could look nice with the plastics all back on it, certainly needs de-greasing but if it keeps leaking it will get that way again.
Ted said it started running better, it will rev at higher rpm's now, it wouldn't when it was here. I'm pretty sure the seafoam worked a little magic on the carb.
It still needs the rear brake fixed. the rear brake handle mount needs fixing, Ted said it had an exhaust leak when he got it home, and it needs front and rear tires. Then it would be a ride able scooter, unless you find something else.

So I finally went out and got to work on the scoot. It would start and idle for about 5 seconds and die. Wouldn't run at all if you gave it any throttle so I took the carb apart and found a plugged up idle jet. Cleared the jet with a piece of wire, sprayed all the carb orifices out liberally and she runs beautiful. Installed the new brake shoes and that took care of the brake adjuster problem. I still have to get a new bracket for the rear brake lever and Ted's going to drop-ship a set of tires to me. In the mean time I'll clean it up some and fix anything else I might find that isn't right.
Doug, Did you replace the gear oil? Did you replace the crank seal behind the flywheel?

No to the gear oil.
Yes to the seal.

Nice going on the seal Doug! I take back what I said about it being a pile o' junk. The scooter really isn't that bad. It just needs a good cleaning. Ted brought it with no side panels so it looks kind raw is all. It has two batteries that are hooked together. One lawn and garden type in the cargo box and a regular one where it should be. The regular one is dead and the other one has been charging for a few hours now with my trickler. I drove to get a new rear brake lever bracket today. Installed that and waiting on tires

Well, I was taught that when you remove something that has a seal in it, you put a new seal in, otherwise it will most probably leak and you'll have to tear it all back apart and do the job over again.
I thought you were a little harsh on the scooter, but it came here in the same condition and I knew what you meant. It looks pretty ragged without the plastics on it. I'm sure when it has its covers back on it will look pretty good. If you look closely you can see a quality finish in there.

Yeah I was quick to judge but it's a good running scoot. I'll give it my best effort. I'll post pics of it after I clean it all up and I'll have Ted bring the side panels when he picks it up so it'll be complete.

Looking at the gauges, the switches a few other things like that and it just looks like it has some higher quality built into it. Next to my 150, I see some cheap looking plastic pieces that just do no tlook as good as the Kymco part. I'm not complaining though.
I knew when I picked up mine that it was not a fancy scooter, but I was not looking for one that was.
Ted paid a lot more for that one than I did for mine and it should have some nicer parts in it.

Sounds like it might make a nice Streetfighter Scoot prodject. Or strip her down to race. I'd like to see a pic.

Got the tires on Friday and today I had a day off to work on Teds scoot. Got it all done. the tires went okay. Looks a lot better with new ones. The small battery wouldn't take a charge so I called Ted and he said he didn't want to pay for a new one so I just removed it and bolted the wires together and taped the positive junction real good and stuffed them in where the small battery should go. The lawn battery is more than enough on it's own. I checked it and it's showing 12.6 with the engine off and 14+ with the engine running. Then I replaced the right side brake light switch, changed the gear oil, cleaned it up a little. It runs really good! Power and speed. Just have to tell Ted to check the oil a lot and not to let it sit for long periods so the carb won't gunk up again.

I liked the lawn mower battery idea, been looking to see if I have enough space to change mine to that when it goes and I don't think their will be a problem.
I'm glad you finished his scooter up for him, it was more than I wanted to take on at the time because of other things I had to do here, I thought when I told him I would help him out that all it needed was the starter fixed, that was almost just the tip of the iceberg.
