Ok PDI is complete, scooter was stalling out but afterwards runs fine. Got rid of the vacuum gas valve that solved it. I don't have my lic yet so I have to stay off the road. Did manage to get a quick run though 50, mph was effortless. The carb had the air screw blocked and I left that alone for now, project for the future. It's just what I expected and I am pleased with it.

Hmm, wonder if the line that valve was in had a leak, from the factory it should have been working OK.
Glad you got it up and going.

I like a manual valve. less likely to fail.

Update : Scooter has 645 Kilometres which is 400 miles running great! As the engine breaks in had to adjust the idle, the rpms rose as it broke in. I changed the oil at delivery and again at 300 kilometres found no metal shavings yet. will change again at 600. I've had it up to 60mph on the scooter speedometer, but 50 to 55 mph feels very comfortable does not seem to strain it at all. My posts are intended to be a reference for other Tao ATM owners. One negtive the swing out grocery bag hook broke and I never even got to use it, very fragile. And I also installed a buzzer on turn signals, very useful. I made two trips form my town St. Augustine to Marineland Fl. lots of fun long stretch's of road no stop lights 55mph limits. To be honest all the china bashing makes me cautious to go much farther yet. But I love it so far! p.s. gets lots of motorcycle waves

Go Big Blue!
Don't worry about the China bashing, most of it is guys waving there male parts to be a dominate male who was smart enough to spend three times the money on a name brand ride. Sure their are some quality issues, like that hook that broke but you are doing a good prep and that takes care of the big issues.
Ride it at speeds you are comfortable with, no need to push things and get hurt.

Post a pic of the broken hook. If I have one I'll ship it to you for the cost of shipping. Shouldn't be more than a couple dollars.

Thanks for the offer, but I expect the little problems. I just will figure out fixing it the way I want it with a modification of some sort. Update>>> Rode from St. Augustine to Flagler beach 35 miles one way. Scooter did fine but when I got there I noticed a squeak in the rear. I saw a missing bolt that held the muffler on but thought it must be something else. Got home and checked the belt and the gear oil, thought it must be the wheel bearing. Started looking at the muffler bracket and found that the bracket also held the wheel on. Replaced the bolt and so far squeak is gone. I guess I was over thinking it, lol . 1,150 kil changed oil again, trying to change aprox every 300 miles. Check you later

I've been curious for while. On the VIN plate under the seat who is listed as the manufacturer and what are the first three letters on the VIN? I was wondering if Tao Tao is listed.

L9N Tao Tao they have a web site. From what I've read they make the whole scooter: Large Output Taotao Group is the first grade production enterprise in China's motorcycle, electric vehicle and engine field, and is the first corporation of China and the third corporation of world in aspect of attaining CPSC certificate from America. Our group has 4 casting shops, 4 welding shops, 2 mould shops, 1 injection shop, 1 hub-making shop and 1 heat-coping shop, and 16 production assembly lines for all different products, 4 plastic-spraying lines and 4 paint-coating lines. Our group has invested over 10 million RMB in establishing a testing center for motorcycles, electric vehicles and related spare parts, more than 0.1 billion RMB for production equipment and over 20 million RMB for testing equipment or instruments. The first-class production facilities, advanced testing equipment and skilled workers allow Taotao to produce 300,000 motorcycles, 300,000 engines, 300,000 ATVs, 300,000 electric vehicles, 100,000 running machines, 500,000 fitness equipment, 300,000 steel & wooden doors and 2 million saw chains every year.
