we had prior posts about using CHT to monitor engine temp. I have continued to read here and there and have found a few more links that others may want to read. the basic safe CHT still appears to be about 350dF for an air cooled 4T engine. the basic danger remains the same. a lean mix may lead to detonation and top end failure in less than a second when CHT is above 350dF. monitoring CHT and EGT is probably the best..... but how many gagues can you actually watch while buzzing around on your scooter ? the first is a thread on the scooterinvasion forum. www.scooterinvasion.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1162the last post has the following graph. the 100dF/12.1 AF ratio point is "optimal" for WOT, slightly rich the danger is when one is at the same temp but on the lean side of the curve. the second is "Jetting from the bottom to the top!" forums.pstuning.com/index.php?showtopic=545

In the old days, hot rod builders always suggested getting it going as good as possible and letting it run just a bit on the rich side, seems like a safe way to go to me.
