I did a quick search and didnt find any other threads about this (if there is please delete this one).
Me: Valvoline in EVERYTHING I own (even my weed wackers run on Valvoline 2 smoker oil). Scoot: 10w40 motorcycle oil and in about 300 miles it will get full synthetic motorcycle oil (10w40 Valvoline) Car: 5W20 Full Synthetic Valvoline (3k miles) Lawn tractor: 30w Valvoline (change about 2 time a season and change the filter once a year) Generators: 30W Valvoline (change it every 50 hours or so of use). Why: Thats what I was raised on and never have had any issues with it.

well in the scooters i use scoot ipon oil when you got a big groups ride we smell like a rolling pop tart factory
they are desinged specficaly for scooters thats why
the trans of the stella gets cheap 30w non detergant and the trans on the zuma gets a full synth gear oil i cant remeber the brand name
the old jd lawn tractor gets cheaper 5/30 oil in it and gets changed early spring and 1/2 way thru the season its getting up there in age and burns a little oil
lets see the old ford tractor i use the cheapest 30w non detergant oil i can find (i have seen a fair share of vintage farm ewuipment trashed by newer oils with detergants in them)
for the truck and the wifes car mobil full sythn my truck get 2 oil changes a year and her car gets one as she doesnt put on as many miles have used mobil full synth in vehciles for years unless a customer requests somethign diffrent they get ipone scoot oil too

I just changed the oil in the Kymco People 150. I used Rotella 15W40. I used Castrol hypoy C 80W90 in the gear box.
I use German Castrol Syntec the European formula 0W30, Castrols only true synthetic in the GMC truck. The wife's Buick with 111,000 miles gets Pennzoil 10W30 high mileage. The daughters 2007 Cobalt gets Pennzoil Platnum 5W30 synthetic. All are happy.
Oh and the Cub Cadet gets Pennzoil Platnum 10W30 synthetic. Its 17 years old and hasn't missed a beat.

I use 10w40 in the two wheeled vehicles. Aside from my 2t Stella. Castrol usually.
10w anything in the old Ford pickup '95. It doesn't seem to care it has 285,000 miles on it.
5w20 in the wife's new '10 Ford Edge. Ford dealer changes the oil in that.
Shell Rotela in the Farm equipment. Come to think of it I've run Rotela in everything that rolls around here at one time or another and had no adverse effects.
I'm going to run ATF in the drag scoots tranny. I think it will work fine. We shall see.

I also have my dealer do the oil in that because they gave me a unlimited mileage warranty on the engine if they did it. next to the F-150 sorry to ramble on but I just love the Edge!

I use green, slippery 10W-40. Sometimes from NAPA, sometimes the stuff from Family Dollar. As he said
The API requirements have become so tight the oil producers don't have much leeway
so I figure if I change it at regular intervals it should be ok.

When I was a kid, I thought that Pennzoil was the one to use, then after taking a few motors apart and seeing the paraffin build up it caused I had my doubts. I changed to Castrol and have had good luck with it in most everything. I can not recall an oil related failure in anything I've had while using it. The last oil related failure was on a Camero my son was trying to wean off of oil. His weaning efforts failed. We got to rebuild the motor though and that was fun.

Another old myth.. Most mineral oils today are paraffin based, this is not candle wax. as some people like to think. The word paraffin is a very common and basic term for base mineral oil. The MSDS sheets for many motor oils use the word paraffin to describe the main oil ingredient...as in "SOLVENT-DEWAXED HEAVY PARAFFINIC PETROLEUM," which is how Valvoline phrases it in their MSDS sheets. Paraffin is the proper organic chemistry word for aliphatic hydrocarbons...more commonly known as oil. It is also the correct name for wax and candles. But there is as much difference between paraffin wax and paraffin oil as there is between a chestnut horse and a horse chestnut. They just aint the same thing. Don't matter whether you're talking about Pennzoil, Castrol, Valvoline or your wife's Christmas candles. If you like Pennzoil, use it worry free. www.lloydminsterheavyoil.com/crudetypes.htmI used Pennzoil from 1960 to the mid 80s and had no issues with it what so ever. Sludge is caused by neglect..not changing the oil regularly, or mechanical problem..PCV not operating correctly, coolant leaks, mixing with the oil and some times just a worn out engine. Pennzoil was one of (still is) the best selling oils out there so it was in more engines than the others and seen in the neglected engines as the cause of the sludged up engines. Shell bought Pennzoil and Quaker State in 2002 so neither is the same formulation anyway.

Well, I admit the motors I took apart back then had many miles on them before I got them so I have no idea how well they were taken care of before me. I just knew they had a heck of a lot of gunk in them and I preferred to not have that, especially if I was working on it and had to clean it up.
I'm talking about in the mid 70's. Then I read or heard that Penn crude oils were the source of that and Quaker and Pennzoil were the one with that on the label. So castrol became my friend. I've not taken a motor caked in crude apart since then.s

Yeah, I've heard that so many times about Pennzoil and have not experienced it my self, and I used it in the 60s and 70s. I have used castrol a lot, its good as well.
Now Quaker state put out a batch of oil with bad additives some years ago and had to pay for some engines. So many rumors abounded over that. But Shell owns them both now and they are very good oils. I believe Pennzoil is the best selling convention oil today.
But most conventional oils are paraffinic. Its in their MSDS information. I have looked it up.
This is right from Valvoline's MSDS ..I just looked it up.

I think I just remembered the source. My father was a Chevrolet/Cadillac mechanic and I think he told me about his experience pulling motors apart and that the Pennzoil motors tended to be full of build up. He did not say he thought the motors wore out faster, they just were messy to work on.

i enjoy my exploder and my wife is upset the the tarus was made bigger she is due for a new car when my truck is paid for if i dont blow all the money on scooters and bikes

My last two trucks were new, love both of them but I have been listening to a guy that has a financial advice radio show, Dave Ramsey, he makes a lot of sense, his advice is never buy new cars and trucks until you have a million dollars in the bank. We all know they drop 25-30% in value the moment you buy them, a one or two yr old is really not any worse to buy and is a lot cheaper. www.daveramsey.com/home/
