So I was just wondering if anyone has done any hypermilling mods to there scooters. I've seen a few pics but no build details. They look like Tron cycles but just wondering how you would go about building them. I'd like to shoot for 55mph & 100+mpg- dont think thats to out of line from what I've seen. Coroplast sheets for body panels & what would you use for a light weight frame that would hold up to wind forces? Another question I've been wondering to achieve the most fuel efficiency would it be better to use a 150cc to conserve weight (I know 55mph is pushing a 150cc but with eco shell mod would it be possible) compared to the 250cc I plan on modding. Eh any ideas are welcome even if they say it wont work just try to tell me the mechanical reason why it isnt feasible I plan on using my tax return to buy me my scooter to save on gas $ this next season & have no immediate plans to do the hypermilling mods right away but I figure it's best to start reasearch now Thanks again in advance for any advice!

55 mph is not that hard to get with a 150cc, the 55 AND 100 mpg might not be as easy. If you are building it from the BMS pathfinder scooter, I think it should do the speed right out of the box.
The Tron type bikes I've seen online really do not look practical to me, extremely wide tires/wheels. The wider the tire, the higher the rolling resistance, takes more power to go. I saw a vid of a guy "riding " one and it looked like it could barely turn. Special effects on film and real world mechanics are often not compatible.

/\ /\ /\ /\ I liked that. was something I had not seen before. What I thought he was talking about was an actual tron like bike. I have seen those.

I hadn't looked at any of Vetter's work for a few years. The guy is sharp. He was the go to guy for motorcycle fairings before most of the people on this board were born and it looks like he is improving with age. I think the ideal Chinese scooter would be a 250cc water cooled. Most of them already have low seating and it's simpler to get air to a radiator than an air cooled engine. But, a garden variety air cooled 150cc would be fun too and an easy 55 mph cruise sounds reasonable with streamlining. You would want to get the seating position low for low frontal area and a 150cc scooter frame would be easy to stretch or build from scratch to get a low seating position. You should be able to find more info by searching for FF or feet forward motorcycle.

Sorry for the confusion Rebel just didn't know how to explain it other than a Tron bike- LoL Ive seen these hypermill mods a few places around the net & just didnt see any other way to explain em. I havent seen any of these actual Tron looking bikes tho post a few pics or links if ya dont mind Thanks for the input & link xs650! That yellow def looks like coroplast or something similar. I'm stoked got my last W-2 today and am getting a decent return WooOoOOoT scooter here I come That BMS pathfinder looks like a nice ride but I do agree air to a radiator is easier than covering an air cooled in a "bubble". Well I have time to ponder & let the gears turn while I await the return so lets keep the ideas flowing AND THANK YOU GUYS FOR ALL YOUR HELP & INPUT

There is a water cooled 150cc out there, it is made by CFMoto. Here is a link. Now CFMoto makes a good copy of the Honda Helix, a water cooled 244cc Honda clone. Then the ECharm a 150cc water cooled scooter that looks the same as the BMS Pathfinder and has the same 16 inch wheels. This guy seems like a good dealer and I understand he is selling the Helix clone right now for about $1,800.00, but does not like to ship them out. How far is Carolina (two locations one in South Carolina the other in North Carolina) from you??? carolinafunmachines.com/znenpricing.aspx

I'd probably spend my time looking into fuel injection systems rather than crazy fairings, or combine the two. Aprilia has used fuel injection on 2 stroke scooters to achieve as much as 120MPG and 50MPH or so unrestricted on a 49cc.

yeah they got that vintage vespa clone out now that has a 150cc fi engine so i would think that on a more aerodynamic modern scoot it would be faster and get better mpg heck you may even be able to start with that scoot and put some modern style body work on it as its not a steel scoot

what the heck is hypermilling? From what I gathered, it was making a bike super aerodynamic and fuel efficient.

I've seen it done on full size vehicles and bikes and it does provide ranging from modest to good improvement but mostly in the top speed areas and gas mileage
