Along with fuel lines, one other rubber component that will give you heartburn on a Chinese scooter, are the tire valve stems. Replacemet is fairly easy, an $20.00 job, parts and labor for both, on the scooter. I like these wood cabinet makers clamps over "C" clamps for this job, lighter than a large clamp, easier than handling the clamp and a piece of wood to protect the rim, and not as strong as a "C" clamp, less likely to accidentally damage the rim. I deviate from most, by applying a very small bead of silicone in the recess around the valve stem. It takes up for any rough machining on the wheel, and almost guarantees a perfect seal, first time, every time. Using a typical valve stem tool, and the handles of a pair of pliers, I pop it into place. Air up, install valve cap, done. Tools used...

Ya, the stock valve stems from China have let many scooter riders down, leaving them stranded on the side of the road.

Yep and not only that they're scary, just the thought of one of them going Ka blooooie sends chills up your spine. I did as Klif and used just a tad of silicone, the only diference was I used the metal two piece valve stems with the nut, bought them at Oreilly's JR

So do you have to give out warnings to customers that they should not lick their valve stems after you do?

I kept procrastinating about replacing mine until last fall. When I did finally replace them the rubber was really starting to deterioate.

Closely related to valve stems-
I finally figured out that prior to checking air pressure on tires that have balance beads inside that it is a good idea to give the tire a quick shot of air to blow the beeds back from the valve. If I don't and put my pressure gage you end up with major air lose. Make sense to y'all?
