Well, Rebels and Reb Belles,I finally got "Lil' Bubba" running strong. So... After a much-needed cleanup, I figured I'd better snap some pix before he got dirty again! Not much different from everybody else's scoot, but we all love to show off a fresh wax-job... Lil' Bubba is a 2007 Xingyue Eagle 150 (1,500 miles) with modified Mikuni carb, Moose Racing go-kart fuel lines/ filter, Briggs manual petcock, Uni "sock" air filter, Bando coil and upgraded CDI. Cosmetics are mild... Factory paint is beautiful black/silver with multi-color metalflake (doesn't show much in pix, but it's hot!). Added are red anodized tire valve caps, red/yellow pinstripes, chrome and red-anodized cooling-fan intake scoop and the fake stoplight in the trunk spoiler made functional with a strip of LED's. Coming soon (hopefully) will be ventilated CVT cover, custom exhaust, upgraded variator and a "real" spark plug. No complaints though. Thanks to good advice from Rebel, Kliff, Jr and other great Rebs, current top end is 59 mph at 9,100 rpm (I DON'T run it long at that rpm!) and the short-geared little scoot gets there double-quick! Lil' Bubba will now cruise at 50 mph nicely though, and carry all the bags of cat food and litter I can stack on the floorboards. Genuine SWEET daily transportation...Enjoy! It's 103+ degrees here in Texas, so the sun is PLENTY bright for taking pix! Enjoy the ride, wherever you are!Leo in Texas

Kliff,
Yeah, THAT partiular scoop is the best-looking one I've found. It looks identical to one offered by another eBay seller, but that one has no screen (the color-anodized screen REALLY makes the look). That seller however gets a LOT more money for the thing, PLUS fairly high shipping.
The seller of the one I got is a lot less expensive on these items, as well as shipping, and his scoop has the color screen too (in MANY different colors). He speaks good English, and is very friendly. Likes to e-mail back and forth. I now have a new scooter friend in Taiwan of all places!
I still need to cut away the factory dirt-bars from the stock fan shroud, so the screen on the scoop is the only impediment to air-flow. The screen is no more restrictive than a Briggs & Stratton fan screen, but will definitely keep out rocks and such.
Hope yours bolts on like mine did! It comes with 3 nice stainless screws, and was in place on Bubba in less than a minute, using existing holes in the shroud!
Thanks again to you and all the others who take the time to post such good info!
Sincerely,
Leo in Texas

Rebel,
Yes, I sent the pic so he could show the scoop fits regular Chinese 150's. Should help him sell some of these! He's a really nice guy to deal with.
Phaze5,
I feel like a kid again, until I try throwing my leg over a real motorcycle... Then the arthritis and such reminds me why I like these step-through puddle-jumpers! Still a LOT of fun to ride though, and AFFORDABLE! I'm past my time of buying, insuring, and maintaining a high-buck cycle. Thankfully, these scooters allow us old guys something cheap and reliable to get around on! And, the blue-haired old ladies, and 6th-grade kids think they are the coolest!
Who could ask for more?
Enjoy the ride,
Leo

Many thanks for the compliments on my scoot and the pix!
These little digital cameras allow you to put a camera in your shirt pocket, that takes pix in the ballpark with a high-end pro 35 mm film camera. I really LOVE that! Sort of makes any of us look like we know what we're doing (even if we don't...).
I shot those with my "daily beater" camera, a VERY well-used Olympus FE 240 I got off eBay for $75. Well worth it to have a camera that fits in my pocket and still gives sharp, (relatively) parallax-free photos in "no-brainer" mode. You can probably get a brand-new comparable camera for less than $100 nowadays!
These Chinese scoots DO clean up well, even after baking in the sun. Paint is ONE area they seem to have down pat! China has been famous for their lacquer-work since before dirt was invented... Now, if they could only get their rubber in the same league with their paint!
Gotta love these little critters!

I removed the stickers on my 50cc and they were covered with a very thick coat of clear. I believe it would have lasted longer than the plastic under it. Kind of makes me think of cicada skins after the bug crawls out of it leaving a shell standing there. Now those digital cameras, they pack a lot of features in those and the capabilities are just staggering now days. Image quality and grain is amazing compared to a few years ago. Being an old 35mm user through the 60's, 70's,80's and 90's it was very hard to give it up but now I've not used any of my old cameras for at least 6 years.

Rebel,
These digital cameras ARE amazing! I finally sold all my Nikon equipment that served me in the advertising business since 1968. (I don't expect digitals to last THAT well!). As of 2000, all my clients demanded digital pix. I was FORTUNATE to sell all of the 35 mm SLR pieces JUST before they lost all value! SOMETIMES you get lucky!
Kliff,
That's a great mod for cooling! Think I'll do the same. You can NEVER get too much air under the plastic! And I love the black carpet! My scoot has the frosted aluminum floorplate, and though I'm careful with my feet, it's getting pretty shabby. By next season I'll need to do something like you did.
Now, since the "presents" (both liquid and solid) from the local cats who like to live under my tarp, on the scoot, rinse off the metal, I'll have to figure out something "non-absorbent" (LOL!).
Tom cats have NO class whatsoever when it comes to marking their territory!
It IS irritating, but I never could be mean to a stray cat or dog... Oh well, I guess it's all part of the "experience"...

Jr,
Verrrrry interesting indeed! I used to watch Laugh In in Germany when I was in the Army (The AMERICAN Army...). The Germans got as much of a kick out of Arte Shaw's Nazi character as we did! (Not sure of the spelling of his name anymore!). Of course, the platoon liked a mostly "nekkid" Goldy Hawn better! Sock it too me...
I was just like you about my beloved SLR 35's. However, when I got outsourced, they paid the bills for a couple of months, earning their final keep. Then I got used to the digital cameras, and found that while they lack a few features from the past, they will still do most anything the good film cameras would, and even a few tricks they wouldn't. And the instant accessability to the computer is the icing on the cake. I'm sold on them now. If I ever got back into professional shooting, I think I could learn to love the new high-end digital SLR's.
Please do call next time you come down Texas way, or message me. Maybe we can get together for a BS session and a little ride in the sun!
Hope that new 250 is all you hoped for! I got to sneak a ride on a church member's new Vespa 250 and it was sweet! No problem keeping up with traffic on that Italian stallion!
Stay safe,
Leo

My scoot has the frosted aluminum floorplate, and though I'm careful with my feet, it's getting pretty shabby. By next season I'll need to do something like you did. Leo in Texas Never too much cooling....you got that exactly right. A few operational facts, DAY 1 Front screen only, 92F, 90% humidity, 15 mile warm up, last mile to Dad's at near WOT. Pop off the front cover, shot the laser temp gun up inside at the bottom of the air cleaner box, 142F. Made up the screen, glued it to the cover frame with GE silicone, and let it cure overnight. DAY 2, Install cover with screen, 94F, 91% humidity, 15 mile warm up run, last mile headed for Dad's nearing WOT again. Pop the front fover, shot the laser temp gun at the bottom of the air cleaner box, 123F YUP, incoming air intake cooled by 19F. This is GOOD, another way to stave off detonation on long hills in hot weather. Fast forward about a week....TODAY! 15 mile warm up, yadayadayad to Dad's, outside crankcase temp, next to oil drain plug on left side of bike, 295F, it was 92F , 93% humidity. Screwed in my temp dipstick real quick, and back out, after temp had stabilized at 290F. (this version is too long, and has some interferance problems, but wanted all the info I could get.) Pulled the fan cover, and installed my spiffy new scoop on fan housing, 15 mile warm up..yadayadayada, 1 mile near WOT, yadayadayada.... Up to 94F now, down to 92% humidity. Outside crankcase, left side, next to drain plug, 272F. Dipstick check again, till stabilized, 261F.... Hmmmmmmfor a scoop that can't work, won't work, and shouldn't work, looks like I attained a 23-29F reduction in engine temp! depending on whether we measure the cranckase or the oil.....and with that silly looking screen in front, an air induction temp loss too! Damn, maybe I shoulkd've stayed in school, so I couldv'e gotten me one of those papers to hang on the wall, just so I could say this stuff won't work...LMAO! PS.... OCG....I liked the colors too! PSS....the carpet! Intersection "road kill" found at a traffic light less than a block from a dollar car wash....yeah...I'm cheap. But I threw it on there, and it satyed....what the heck?
